4. Put a Hold on an Item and Recall an Item

To Place a Hold on an Item:

1. In FOLIO, click on the orange Requests app.

2. In the top right corner, click on the dropdown that says Actions, then click New.

3. Click in the Item barcode box, then scan the item's barcode.

4. Under the dropdown that says Request information, under Request type, click the dropdown and choose Hold.

5. Under the drop that says Requester information, click the link that says Requester look-up.

6. In the pop-up window, type the patron information. Click the correct patron for the Hold.

a. NOTE: Many patrons share the same or similar last names. BE CAREFUL!! (Check the first name, middle initial, graduation year, etc.)

7. Back in the New Requests window, under the Pickup service point dropdown, choose Dinand Library Circulation Desk.

8. Click Save & close.

9. Click the X in the Request Detail pane on the right side of the screen.

10. Click on the green Check in app.

11. Scan the item barcode. 

12. In the pop up window, uncheck the box that says Print Slip and click Close.

13. Click End sessionThe patron will then receive an email that their hold is ready for pickup. 

14. On a scrap piece of paper, write down the patron's first and last name and today's date. Place this inside the item and put a rubber band around the item. Put the item on the hold shelf behind the Circulation Desk, and it will be kept on hold for 30 days. If the item is not picked up after 30 days, it will be returned to the stacks. 

 

When a patron arrives to pick up their item:

1. Click on the red Check out app.

2. Swipe the patron's Holy Cross ID.

a. If their ID is not working, you can enter their HC ID# if they know it.

b. You can also click on Patron look-up and type in their name, then click Search. Click on the correct patron from the search. 

c. NOTE: Many patrons share the same or similar last names. BE CAREFUL!! (Check the first name, middle initial, graduation year, etc.)

3. Check the Hold Shelf for the patron's item(s).

 

To Recall an Item for Reserves:

*Note: The Recall function is used ONLY for Reserves. 

1. In FOLIO, click on the orange Requests tab.

2. In the top right corner, click on the dropdown that says Actions, then click New

3. Click in the Item barcode box, then paste the barcode. (NOTE: If an item is being recalled, you will have to copy and paste the Item barcode from the Inventory app).

4. Under the dropdown that says Request information, under Request type, click the dropdown and choose Recall.

5. In the box that says Patron comments, write down why the book is being recalled. (Example: "Item is needed for Spring 2023 Reserves PSYC 100").

6. Under the dropdown that says Requester information, click the link that says Requester look-up.

7. In the pop-up window, type Dinand Reserve.

8. Click Save & close.

9. Click the X in the Request Detail pane on the right side of the screen.

The patron will then receive an email that their item has been recalled and is due in 3 days.

 

When the recalled item is returned:

1. When the recalled item is Checked In, a pop-up will appear on the screen indicating that the item was recalled. Follow the directions on the screen and give the item to a supervisor. Eileen or Chelsea will process the item for Reserves.
