Educational Resources for Teachers

The following resources provided helpful information for creating lesson plans and using data sets in lesson plans:

American Farm Bureau Educating About Agriculture - Foundation for Agriculture programs include Pigs & Pork in the Story of Agriculture – Educator’s Guide, New Apple Ag Mag (for grades 3 to 5), and White-Reinhardt Mini-Grants information (up to $500).

ESRI GIS Education Site - explore the incorporation of GIS and geographic concepts in the classroom.

National Science Foundation Classroom Resources - Dozens of lessons and web resources for classroom teachers, their students, and students' families. Materials are arranged by subject area to help you quickly find resources in your interest area, and then use them to create lesson plans or at-home activities.

NOAH Climate Services - Education Teaching Resources with sections for Students, Teachers and For Fun. The Teachers section includes mutiple lesson plans in Math, Chemistry, Geography, Earth Science, Life Science and Physical Science. The comprehensive lesson plans present NOAA science through activities using online data from NOAA, and other trusted Web sites. The lessons are correlated to National Science Education Standards and the Ocean Literacy Essential Principles and Fundamental Concents. The Lessons are designed to supplement existing curricula at the middle and high school levels.

NOAH Ocean Service Education - multiple links to activities and lesson plans on number topics including Mapping Sea Floor,

  • Superfund for Students and Teachers is designed to educate students and teachers about the EPA Superfund Program and hazardous waste. Site includes classroom activities, frequently asked questions, information on environmental education and grants. (http://www.epa.gov/superfund/students/index.htm)
  • EPA Teachers Site (Environmental Protection Agency) offers lesson plans and activities from EPA and many other sources, grouped by topic. (http://epa.gov/teachers/)
  • Environment and Health is a tutorial that walks you through the process of creating a profile of environment and health in your community. Residents, local officials, students, and others can use this as a guide to locating pollution sources and addressing health risks.   • Curriculum, Lesson Plans, and Activities from the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center at the University of Arizona, contains K-12 programs and educational activities and curricula. (http://coep.pharmacy.arizona.edu/curriculum/index.html)
  • Resource Guide on Children's Environmental Health includes a keyword index so students can search specific toxicants. (http://cehn.org/resources/)
  • My environment, my health, my choices is an education project intended to offer students and teachers a new set of tools to address environmental health issues and concerns in their daily lives. (http://www2.envmed.rochester.edu/envmed/ehsc/outreach/index.html)
  • Tox Town uses color, graphics, sounds and animation to add interest to learning about connections between chemicals, the environment, and the public's health. Tox Town's target audience is students above elementary-school level, educators, and the general public. (http://toxtown.nlm.nih.gov/)
  • RadTown USA is an interactive, virtual community of houses, schools, laser light shows, construction equipment, flying planes, and moving trains. Each place in RadTown helps you learn about radiation sources or radiation- treated items you might find there (requires Macromedia Flash). (http://www.epa.gov/radtown/)
  • Environmental Health Science Education (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences) provides educators, students and scientists with easy access to reliable tools, resources and classroom materials. (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/science-education/home.htm)

U.S. Department of Agriculture Educational Resources - multiple links to agricultural projects and activities for students and teachers to use in the classroom including Sci4Kids, Science fair project, Teachers' Desk, Science Knows No Boundaries, Agriculture is Fun, and more...

U.S. Department of Agriculture - Agriculture in the Classroom - The Agriculture in the Classroom National Resource Directory is an online searchable database that lists hundreds of educational resources designed to help educators locate high quality classroom materials and information to increase agricultural literacy among their Pre-K through 12th grade students.

U.S. Department of Energy Biomass Program Educational Resources for Students - Kids' Page, Energy Technology Center for Kids' Fun, and EnergyQuest web site.

U.S. Energy Information Administration - Energy for Kids - for kids and teachers.

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) - Water Science for Schools - information on many aspects of water, along with pictures, data, maps, and an interactive center where you can give opinions and test your water knowledge.
