Citing Your Sources

Citation Styles by Discipline

MLA Style: English, Modern Languages & Literatures

Chicago/Turabian Style: Classics, History, Religious Studies

APA Style: Social Sciences except Sociology (and sometimes Anthropology*).

ASA Style: Sociology

CSE Style: Natural Sciences

*Depending on the class, your Anthropology professor may ask you to use AAA style.

There are many different "styles" you may choose from when citing sources. MLA (Modern Language Association), Chicago, and APA (American Psychological Association) are the three most common styles. Your professor will probably tell you which style(s) he or she would like you to use. If you are not sure, check the list on the left for the style most commonly used in your subject area.

This guide contains resources to help you in using each of the major citation styles. Have questions or need more help? Ask a librarian.
