CrossWorks: The Institutional Repository for the College of the Holy Cross

This guide provides information about Holy Cross' institutional repository. Learn why and how to submit your work to CrossWorks.

Types of content eligible for CrossWorks

A wide variety of material can be placed in the repository, including text, image, audio and video files.  Items eligible for submission may include but are not limited to

  • Published articles (when copyright and/or license allow)
  • Book chapters
  • Working papers
  • Conference materials
  • Honors theses
  • Faculty-sponsored or Faculty-student collaborative projects
  • Journals published by the Holy Cross community
  • Faculty course-related output (syllabi, etc.)
  • Annual reports and newsletters
  • Technical reports
  • Data sets
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Audio recordings (for example, oral histories)
  • Multi-media projects

For Faculty

What you do:

1.  Provide the CrossWorks Coordinator with a list of your publications or items you wish to submit.

  • Email a copy of your CV to crossworks@holycross.edu
  • You may choose which of your publications to have included in CrossWorks.   For example, you might only want your most recent research or older research that isn't openly available.
  • Alternatively, for individual items, email the article or citation to crossworks@holycross.edu

2.  Review and complete the  CrossWorks Submission Agreement.  If you have any questions, contact crossworks@holycross.edu.

3.  Create a Digital Commons account (optional).  This provides you with access to an Author Dashboard where you can review download and readership information.

  • This step is not required, but it provides you with more flexibility and control over reviewing  your download information
  • If you do not create a Digital Commons account, you will receive monthly download reports at the email address you provide.

What we do for you:

1.  Review the list of publications, determine copyright/permissions for each work, contact publishers for permission on your behalf.

  • Permission for images, charts, and other materials incorporated into the paper are the responsibility of the author.
  • Compliance with the IRB is the responsibility of the author.

2.  Upload permitted material to CrossWorks.  We use the bepress Digital Commons submission form  to create the metadata and citation for each work.  Access is provided in the form of a downloadable PDF file.

  • Once your work is posted, you will receive an email containing a permanent and stable link to the item.

Student Scholarship Eligible for CrossWorks

One purpose of CrossWorks is to showcase student scholarship.  Currently* student scholarship eligible for submission to CrossWorks must fall into at least one of the following categories (there will often be overlap)

  • Fenwick Scholar project
  • College Honors thesis/project
  • Department Honors thesis/project
  • Weiss Summer Research Program
  • Presentations/Posters for the Academic Conference, Summer Research Symposium
  • Faculty-sponsored research
  • Faculty-student collaborations (ex. CBL projects, oral history projects)
  • College publications (ex. The Criterion, Parnassus)
  • Work that has been awarded a prize by the College (ex. Beethoven Prize, Vannicelli Award)

For Students

What you do:

1.  Review and complete the CrossWorks Submission Agreement.  If you have any questions, contact crossworks@holycross.edu.

  • Save form as permission_LastName_FirstInitial_YYYY (ex. permission_Doe_J_2024 )
  • Remember to have it signed by your faculty advisor.

CrossWorks Submission Agreement

This is a fillable form.  Once form is completed, save the PDF using Save As permission_LastName_FirstInitial_YYYY (Ex. permission_doe_j_YYYY) and email along with your CV or project to crossworks@holycross.edu.
