What Is Open Access?

Open Access:  a simple definition

  • Open Access is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles, coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment.

There are two main forms of Open Access publishing:

Green OA: self-archiving

  • Institutional Repository, Pub Med, etc.

Gold OA: publishing in an OA or hybrid journal

  • may involve an OA publishing fee
