What is CrossWorks?

What is Cross Works?

CrossWorks is the institutional repository of the College of the Holy Cross. It is used to:

  • Collect, preserve and provide open access to the intellectual and creative work of the Holy Cross Community 
  • Provide access to some of the unique materials in the College Archives and Distinctive Collections
  • Increase visibility of scholarship and creative works
  • Showcase departments, programs and student research

CrossWorks is an online space. 

CrossWorks is an open access platform of the Holy Cross Libraries.  That means you don't have to pay to view or download items.

What Content is Eligible for CrossWorks?

CrossWorks Collection Policy

  • The work must be scholarly in nature, research oriented, creative or of institutional significance.

  • Student work must be vetted through an established academic department, program or faculty advisor.
  • Contributors may include non-affiliated scholars if they are co-authoring with Holy Cross authors or are affiliated closely with the College, e.g., professor emeritus
  • There is no formal limit to file size or amount of material.
  • Most file formats are acceptable.
  • Some material may be available only to the Holy Cross community.

Items eligible for submission may include but are not limited to

  • Published articles (when copyright and/or license allow)
  • Book chapters
  • Working papers
  • Honors theses
  • Faculty-sponsored or Faculty-student collaborative projects
  • Journals published by the Holy Cross community
  • Data sets
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Audio recordings (for example, oral histories)

How to Submit

Submission Instructions

What you do:

1.  Review and complete the CrossWorks Submission Agreement.  If you have any questions, contact crossworks@holycross.edu.

2.  Provide the digital file of the work.

3.   Create a Digital Commons account (optional).  This provides you with access to an Author Dashboard where you can review download and readership information.

  • This step is not required, but it provides you with more flexibility and control over reviewing  your download information
  • If you do not create a Digital Commons account, you will receive monthly download reports at the email address you provide.

What we do for you:

1. Upload material to CrossWorks.  We use the bepress Digital Commons submission form  to create the metadata and citation for each work.  Access is provided in the form of a downloadable PDF file.

  • Once your work is posted, you will receive an email containing a permanent and stable link to the item.

Please Note:

  • Permission for images, charts, and other materials incorporated into the paper are the responsibility of the author.
  • Compliance with the IRB is the responsibility of the author.
