The Science Library and Archives/Distinctive Collections are teaming up to create a collaborative art project—a 3D coral reef—to raise awareness about the importance of coral ecosystems and the challenges they face.
We invite all students, faculty, and staff to contribute to this unique project! Create a piece (or pieces!) of the coral reef using the materials and techniques that inspire you. To get you started, we’re providing yarn, crochet hooks, knitting needles, and a variety of knitting and crochet patterns.
Prefer a different medium? Feel free to explore other 3D methods like papier-mâché, 3D printing, or anything else you imagine!
Supplies and patterns will be available in the Science Library starting January 21. All completed materials should be dropped off at the Science Library by April 14.
The finished reef will debut during an Earth Day celebration. (More details on that to come!) All donated pieces will remain on display in the library until December 2025, after which the coral reef will be donated to another educational institution to continue spreading awareness about the importance of coral ecosystems.
Join us in crafting a vibrant coral reef and making a lasting statement about protecting these incredible ecosystems!
