Hector did a lot of work in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  One of the most important long-term projects here documented a society of Congolese men who dress in 19th century French costume, sapeurs, to engage and counter the realities of political and economic hardship in postcolonial Africa.

His work in Bolivia highlighted the cultural significance of the coca leaf and the efforts of Evo Morales to destigmatize the international public's view of the coca leaf as a drug:  Coca no es cocaine.

His work in Mexico unmasks the lives of Penélopes, women of myriad ages and backgrounds who are left waiting obediently for their husbands after they've emmigrated to the United States.
