How To...Find & Use Ebooks

We have two iPads and one iPad Mini as part of a pilot project meant to offer a stand-in service for students and faculty as well as to find out how you are using e-books on a device. These iPads are equipped with Bluefire Reader and Adobe Digital Editions and we'd like to hear how they serve you, what works, what's convenient, what could be improved!

The loan period is one week with a signed waiver acknowledging the fine imposed if the iPad is damaged. Contact Eileen Cravedi or Bob Scheier for more information.

General Information:

iPads will be circulated in a carrying case and will include a power adaptor (with cord) and a bumper cover. Please report any problems you have with the iPad immediately to the circulation staff (in person, at x2642, or via email at libcirc@holycross.edu)

1. iPads are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk of Dinand Library.
2. Only current Holy Cross Faculty, Students, and Staff, with no blocks on their library account can borrow an iPad.
3. Loans are on a first come first served basis; no hold may be placed on iPads.
4. When an iPad is returned all data and settings will be wiped from the device.
5. iPads should be carefully handled and never left unattended.
6. Damage or loss of the iPad or accessories will be subject to overdue fines and/or replacement fees.

Checkout and Return:

1. Loan period is 4 days.
2. Faculty may request an extended-use checkout and/or may renew up to 5 times.
3. iPads may be taken out of the library.
4. All items (iPad, charger, cover, and carrying case) must be returned at the same time and handed to a staff member so it can be removed from your library account.
5. Usage is subject to the Holy Cross Use of Information Technology Services
6. By checking out an iPad, users affirm that they are responsible for damage or loss while it is checked out to them; see  iPad Loan Agreement.

Liability - by checking out the iPad you agree to the loan agreement (a copy is also included in the carrying case).  Please read it carefully before checking the iPad out.  Please note you are responsible for any damages or replacement fees, up to the full replacement cost of the iPad and accessories.  We urge you to check before you leave the desk area to confirm that the iPad is working.

By checking out the iPad and accessories I understand:

• The loan period is four days.
• Overdue charges accumulate after the due date.
• I will reimburse Holy Cross Libraries for the cost of repairing/replacing this iPad and/or accessories if they are lost, stolen, or damaged while checked out on my library account.
• If damaged or lost, the replacement cost for the iPad is between $600-700, the power cord $29, and the carrying case $30.
• The iPad must be returned directly to a member of the staff of the Dinand Library and must not be returned to any other Holy Cross Library.
• If the iPad is kept past the due date, the library reserves the right to block library privileges, to charge your account for the maximum overdue fines, and to collect full replacement costs.
• Neither Dinand Library nor the College of the Holy Cross is responsible for damage to any external drive or computer, or for any loss of data, damage, or liability that may occur from the use of the iPad.
