As of January 2025, Holy Cross has no official policy on the use of artificial intelligence in coursework. However, there is an Ethical Guidance statement for faculty to consult as they interact with AI professionally and in the classroom.
Acceptable uses of AI are up to the discretion of the individual faculty member depending on what is appropriate for their course. We suggest including clear language in your syllabus about when, how, and for what purposes students may use generative AI for their work. Below is the Holy Cross AI ethical guidance as well as examples of how to integrate AI language into your syllabus so that you can create a classroom policy that works for you and your course.
If you would like assistance working with your students on appropriate uses of AI for research, please contact your preferred librarian or libref@holycross.edu and we'd be happy to help!
