Common Requirements Implementation Committee (CRIC): Assessment

Motion for assessment

Motion September 29, 2023

The members of CRIC moved to modify the implementation plan approved by the Faculty Assembly in October 2022 to include the creation of an assessment plan prior to the launch of the new model (previously Phase 7, proposed to be moved to start during Phase 3).  In addition to developing a long-term plan to assess our proposed curricular goals and student learning outcomes, we commit ourselves to assessing key questions surrounding the existing model of common requirements.  This assessment will inform our implementation of the new model. In particular, CRIC pledges to:

  • Create a working group tasked with the development of an initial assessment plan that can be presented to and discussed by the full CRIC committee.  This work will begin immediately; the working group will have a goal of presenting an initial plan to CRIC before the end of the Fall 2023 semester.

  • Assess the current model for common requirements in terms of course capacities, demographics, and the timing of when different requirements are completed.  This project is expected to take place during the 2023-2024 academic year.

  • Develop a long-term plan of assessment for the new model of common requirements that includes a regular review of the various requirements.  This is expected to take place during the 2023-2024 academic year.

  • Bring a motion to the Faculty Assembly in Fall 2024 asking for endorsement of our assessment plan.

  • Work to secure an explicit commitment of resources from the administration to support the implementation of that plan.
